Alum Stp

Alum is a chemical compound used in numerous industrial processes due to its beneficial properties, including astringent, antiseptic, antibacterial, and deodorant qualities. We are an established Manufacturer, Exporter, and Supplier of a comprehensive range of Alum products. Our extensive portfolio includes Alum Powder and Crystals, Industrial Alum, Ammonium Alum, Ferric Ammonium Alum, Water Soluble Alum, Laboratory Alum, ETP Alum, Ferric Alum, and Non-Ferric Alum. Our entire range is pure, safe, and stable, widely acknowledged for accurate composition, reliability, and long shelf life.

Alums are useful for a wide range of industrial processes. They are soluble in water, have an astringent, acid, and sweetish taste, react acid to litmus, and crystallize in regular octahedra. When heated, they liquefy; if heating continues, the water of crystallization is driven off, the salt froths and swells, and eventually an amorphous powder remains.

Industrial Uses of Alum:

Potassium Alum is the common alum of commerce, although Soda Alum, Ferric Alum, and Ammonium Alum are also manufactured. Alum has been used since at least Roman times for purification of drinking water and industrial process water. Between 30-40 ppm of alum for household wastewater (often more for industrial wastewater) is added to the water so that negatively charged colloidal particles clump together into flocs, which then float to the top, settle to the bottom, or can be more easily filtered before further filtration and disinfection of the water.

Chemical Flocculant – Water Clarification:

Alum is used to clarify water by neutralizing the electrical double layer surrounding fine suspended particles, allowing them to flocculate (stick together). After flocculation, the particles become large enough to settle and can be removed. Alum may also be used to increase the viscosity of a ceramic glaze suspension, making the glaze more adherent and slowing its sedimentation rate. Additionally, Alum is an ingredient in some recipes for homemade modeling compounds intended for use by children.

Key Benefits and Properties of Alum:

  • Water Purification – Effective coagulant and flocculant for drinking water and wastewater treatment
  • Antiseptic and Antibacterial – Used for its antiseptic and astringent properties
  • Versatile Applications – Used in textile, paper, ceramic, and food industries
  • Wide Range of Grades – Available as Ammonium Alum, Ferric Alum, Potash Alum, and Non-Ferric Alum
  • High Purity – Manufactured to ensure accurate composition and reliability
